Diego Marcos Pérez is the scientific manager of the Rheumatology Research Group (GIR) since June 2025. He has a degree in Biology from the A Coruña University (UDC) and a master´s degree in Advanced Biotechnology between the Universities of A Coruña and Vigo. He obtained his PhD in cellular and molecular Biology from UDC in 2019. His thesis work as a member of DICOMOSA group was mainly focused on the search for potential biomarkers related to frailty in older adults, earning the Extraordinary Thesis Award 2018-2019 of University of the A Coruña for the Thesis: “Association of frailty status in older adults with immunological, endocrine and oxidative stress biomarkers”

Following with his search of immunological and molecular biomarkers related to frailty and ageing, in 2020 Dr. Marcos-Perez joined to the Ageing research line of the Oncology group of Health Research Institute Biogipuzkoa in San Sebastian, where he obtained in 2021 a 3-years Postdoctoral fellowship from EITB Maratoia, and a 3-years Sara Borrell fellowship funded by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), which he started in December of 2021 until April 2025. After that, he joined the Geriatrics and Active Ageing (INGEA) group of Navarrabiomed, Pamplona as project manager.

As a result of his work, he is the author or co-author of 14 scientific publications in JCR-indexed journals, and he has an h index (WoS) of 12. Moreover, he has participated in or collaborated on more than 20 international, national, and autonomic competitive projects.
