Dr. Morena Scotece is graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Naples “Federico II” (Italy), with a thesis on the role of Palmitoylethanolamide in the synthesis of allopregnanolone in C6 cells and primary astrocytes. In 2009, she moved to Santiago de Compostela, where she obtained a Master in Biomedical Research and achieved the research fellow of the Spanish Ministry of Education (FPU) in Dr. Oreste Gualillo’s laboratory. In 2015, she obtained her international PhD in Molecular Medicine, at the University of Santiago de Compostela, with a focus on the role of adipokines and natual drugs in rheumatic diseases. Afterwards, she received a Grant at the University of Tampere, Finland, and she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Immunopharmacology research group of Professor Eeva Moilanen where she studied the role of MKP-1 kinase and TRPA-1 receptor in a mouse model of scleroderma.
In 2017, she achieved the national research contract "Sara Borrell" funded by the “Carlos III Health Institute” and she moved to the Rheumatology Research Group of Dr. Francisco Blanco at INIBIC where she is working as a postdoctoral researcher focussing her research on the following fields: 1) circulating mtDNA in rheumatic diseases; 2) analysis of mtDNA as a new DAMP in Osteoarthritis and 3) use of cybrids as an in vitro model to explore the contribution of mitochondrial dysfunction and mtDNA gene mutations to the pathogenesis of OA. Dr. Morena Scotece published more than 40 papers in international journals. She participated in several international congress as a speaker or poster presenter. She is a dedicated and very skilful scientist with a strong experience in several laboratory techniques.
